General Preparation
Tools Needed:
- EMW Gua Sha tool
- Yin potion EO roll-on for the ladies and Yang Elixir EO roll-on for the gentlemen as lubricant and to improve overall circulation to reproductive organs.
- Warm environment to keep the body relaxed.
Posture:
- Please lie down comfortably on your back for abdominal Gua Sha and on your stomach for the lower back.
- Ensure they are well-supported with pillows under the knees or hips to maintain alignment and relaxation.
Breathing:
- Encourage deep, slow breathing throughout the session to increase relaxation and energy flow.
Gua Sha for Ladies
Abdominal Gua Sha
Lower abdomen from the pubic area 中极 Zhong Ji (CV-3) to below the navel 气海 Qi Hai (CV-6) and lateral sides, focusing on the areas near the ovaries (slightly above the inguinal region). This helps to regulate blood flow to the reproductive organs, improve digestion, and support the uterus.
Step by step technique:
- Start by applying Yin-potion essential oil roll-on to your lower abdomen.
- Use the Gua Sha tool with light to medium pressure, moving in an upward motion from the pubic area toward the navel.
- Make strokes along the Ren channel (midline) and gently fan out toward the sides.
- Pay special attention to areas around the ovaries, using slow, steady strokes to stimulate energy flow (气 Qi) and blood circulation (血 Xue).
- Aim for 20 strokes on each side of the abdomen.
Frequency
- Best performed during the follicular phase of the menstrual cycle (post-menses, pre-ovulation) to promote healthy circulation for ovulation.
- Avoid during menstruation.
Lower Back Gua Sha
The lower back, particularly the lumbar region (L2-L5), covering the 命门 Ming Men acupoint (Du-4) and the sacrum. Focus on the Bladder meridian on both sides of the spine, which is associated with kidney and reproductive health.
Step by step technique:
- Apply Yin-potion essential oil roll-on to your mid-lower back.
- Use the Gua Sha tool in an upward motion from the sacrum to the mid-back.
- Start with moderate pressure along the spine, use upward strokes from the sacrum to the upper back, target 命门 Ming Men acupoint and the surrounding area to tonify the Kidneys and warm the lower burner.
- Aim for 20-30 strokes per side.

- Helps nourish the Kidneys, which play a vital role in reproductive health in TCM.
- Alleviates lower back pain commonly experienced due to menstrual cycles or hormone imbalance
Aftercare for Both:
- Warm compress: Apply a warm towel to the treated area to promote relaxation and keep the Qi moving.
- Hydration: Encourage drinking warm water or herbal teas (such as ginger tea) after the session to help flush out toxins and rehydrate the body.
- Rest: Allow the body to rest after the treatment to assimilate the benefits of improved circulation and Qi flow.
Precautions:
- Avoid Gua Sha during pregnancy, menstruation (for women), or when experiencing open wounds, skin infections, or severe illness.

Gua Sha for Gentlemen
Abdominal Gua Sha:
Lower abdomen, especially around the Dan Tian area which is close to 中极 Zhong Ji (CV-6), and the lateral sides near the inguinal area. The focus is on stimulating Qi flow to the reproductive organs, enhancing vitality, and improving blood circulation to support sperm health.
Step by step technique:
- Apply Yang Elixir essential oil roll-on generously to the abdomen.
- Use the Gua Sha tool with light to medium pressure, moving in an upward motion from the pubic area toward the navel.
- Pay attention to the 气海 Qi Hai (CV-6) and 关元 Guan Yuan (CV-4) points, using straight, upward strokes to move Qi toward the heart and distribute energy.
- Perform 20 strokes on each side of the abdomen, making sure the pressure is even and the motion is smooth.
Frequency:
It can be performed at any time but especially beneficial in the morning or before bed when the body is in a relaxed state.
Lower Back Gua Sha:
The lumbar and sacral region, focusing on the 命门 Ming Men acupoint (Du-4) and the areas over the Bladder meridian on either side of the spine. This area is crucial for enhancing Kidney Yang, which is directly linked to reproductive vitality in men.
Step by step technique:
- Apply oil to the lower back.
- Use moderate to firm strokes upward along the spine and the Du channel, paying special attention to the 命门 Ming Men acupoint.
- Follow with strokes on the Bladder meridian from the mid-back down to the sacrum.
- Use 20 strokes on each side, applying firm but comfortable pressure.
