Is Your Child Picky, Tired, Falling Sick Often or Not Growing Well? Our Pediatric Nutrition Programme Can Help
Many parents come to us with the same concern:
“My child eats, but does not seem to absorb well.”
Some children are picky with food. Some eat slowly, fall sick easily, have eczema or sensitive airways, complain of stomach discomfort, pass motion irregularly, or seem more tired than other children. Others may be growing, but not as strongly as expected.
At EMW TCM, we do not see child nutrition as simply “eat more” or “take more supplements.”
If you are searching for TCM child nutrition in Singapore, EMW’s programme helps parents understand their child’s appetite, digestion, immunity and growth from both TCM and evidence-informed nutrition perspectives.
A child may be eating enough calories, but still struggle with digestion, absorption, nutrient balance, immune resilience and body constitution. This is why our Personalised TCM Nutrition Programme for Immunity, Appetite & Growth combines Traditional Chinese Medicine assessment, child constitution profiling, hair mineral testing, child tuina, herbal patch therapy and practical nutrition guidance.
Our aim is simple: to help parents understand their child better and support the body in a more targeted, personalised and sustainable way.
Why Child Nutrition Is More Than Just Food Intake
Good nutrition supports healthy growth, brain development and immunity. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) notes that healthy foods benefit children’s health and development, including brain development, healthy growth and immune function.
But in real life, nutrition is not always straightforward.
A child may eat, but still have:
- Poor appetite
- Picky eating
- Bloating or constipation
- Low energy
- Frequent coughs, colds or phlegm
- Eczema, allergies or sensitive airway
- Poor sleep or restless sleep
- Mood swings or poor emotional regulation
- Slow growth or low stamina
- Picking up food/litter from floor and putting into mouth
- Biting nails
From a TCM perspective, this often relates to the strength of the Spleen and Stomach system, which refers to the child’s digestive and absorptive capacity. In simple terms, it is not only about what enters the mouth. It is also about how well the body transforms food into Qi, Blood and nourishment.
In biomedical terms, we are also looking at digestion, nutrient density, gut function, micronutrient balance, inflammation burden, sleep quality and the child’s overall growth pattern.
This is where an East-meets-West approach becomes useful.
What Is EMW’s Personalised TCM Nutrition Programme?
Our child nutrition TCM Singapore programme is designed for parents who want a more personalised way to support their child’s appetite, immunity, digestion and growth.
The Personalised TCM Nutrition Programme for Immunity, Appetite & Growth is designed for children from toddler age to teenage years who may need support with appetite, digestion, immunity, growth, skin health, airway sensitivity, energy, sleep, focus or emotional balance.
The programme includes:
- TCM physician consultation
- TCM body constitution assessment
- Hair mineral test
- Pediatric tuina
- Herbal patch therapy
- Sample meal plan
- Personalised dietary guidance
- Follow-up nutrition recommendations
Instead of giving every child the same supplement, same food list or same generic “eat more vegetables” advice, we first assess what the child’s body may need.
Some children need digestive strengthening.
Some need better mineral support.
Some need less dampness-producing foods.
Some need warmer, easier-to-digest meals.
Some need airway and skin support.
Some need a calmer nervous system and better sleep rhythm before appetite improves.
The goal is not to overwhelm parents. The goal is to give clarity.
Why We Use Hair Mineral Testing
A hair mineral test can provide a broader picture of long-term mineral patterns. Unlike a blood test, which often reflects a more immediate snapshot, hair testing may offer clues about mineral trends over time.
In our programme, the hair mineral test looks at:
8 essential minerals:
Calcium, chromium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, selenium and zinc.
8 toxic metals:
Aluminium, arsenic, cadmium, mercury, nickel, lead, silver and tin.
However, this is important: we do not use hair mineral testing as a standalone diagnosis.
Hair testing has limitations, especially when assessing toxic metal exposure. ATSDR notes that using hair analysis as an exposure or diagnostic tool for metal contamination is limited by issues such as distinguishing internal exposure from external contamination.
This is why EMW interprets the test carefully and responsibly.
We look at the result together with:
- The child’s symptoms
- Diet history
- Growth pattern
- Digestion and bowel habits
- Sleep quality
- Skin and airway tendency
- TCM constitution
- Medical history
- Parent concerns
If there are red flags or concerns that require medical testing, we will advise parents to consult a pediatrician and consider appropriate blood tests or further medical evaluation.
Hair mineral testing is not meant to replace pediatric care. It is a supportive tool that helps us reduce guesswork and personalise nutrition more intelligently.
As part of our child nutrition TCM Singapore approach, the hair mineral test is interpreted together with the child’s symptoms, diet, growth pattern and TCM constitution.
The TCM Five Element Child Constitution Approach
One unique part of EMW’s programme is our use of TCM child constitution profiling.
This does not mean we label the child permanently. Rather, it helps us understand patterns in appetite, digestion, behaviour, sleep, immunity and emotional regulation.
1. Wood Type: Liver & Gallbladder
Wood-type children are often energetic, driven, curious and natural leaders.
Common support areas may include magnesium and manganese-rich foods, emotional regulation, regular movement, reducing overstimulation and supporting smooth digestion.
2. Fire Type: Heart & Small Intestine
Fire-type children are often expressive, warm, enthusiastic and sociable.
For these children, we often look at sleep rhythm, screen exposure, calming routines, hydration, mineral balance and foods that do not overstimulate the system.
3. Earth Type: Spleen & Stomach
Earth-type children are often caring, patient and reliable.
This is one of the most common patterns we see in pediatric nutrition. For these children, the focus is often on strengthening digestion with warm, cooked, regular meals and reducing foods that are too cold, greasy, sugary or difficult to digest.
4. Metal Type: Lung & Large Intestine
Metal-type children are often precise, sensitive and observant.
For these children, we often support the Lung and Large Intestine systems through digestion, bowel regularity, skin support, immune resilience and careful food selection.
5. Water Type: Kidney & Bladder
Water-type children are often calm, intuitive and observant.
For these children, we often look at sleep, mineral support, protein adequacy, calcium and iron-rich foods, sunlight exposure, movement and long-term growth monitoring.

Our Programme Focus
1. Strengthening Gut Function
In TCM, the Spleen and Stomach are central to a child’s growth and development. If digestion is weak, the child may eat but not transform food well into usable energy and nourishment.
Our approach focuses on practical dietary adjustments such as:
- Regular meal timing
- Warm cooked meals
- Reducing excessive cold drinks
- Supporting bowel regularity
- Improving breakfast quality
- Balancing protein, fibre and minerals
- Avoiding too much sugar, fried food and processed snacks
- Matching food choices to the child’s constitution
For Singapore children, this must also be realistic. We work with local foods, school schedules, family meals and the child’s actual preferences.
2. Individualised Nutrition Support
Children do not all need the same thing.
A picky Earth-type child with bloating needs a different plan from a Metal-type child with eczema and frequent cough. A Water-type child with low stamina needs a different approach from a Fire-type child with restless sleep and overstimulation.
Through the consultation, TCM assessment and hair mineral test, we identify what the child may need more support with.
This may include food sources rich in zinc, iron, calcium, magnesium, selenium or other key nutrients, depending on the child’s needs and overall picture.
3. Supporting Growth and Immunity Together
Growth and immunity are connected.
A child who is always falling sick may have poor appetite during and after each illness. A child with poor digestion may struggle to build strong Qi and Blood. A child with poor sleep may have weaker recovery and emotional regulation.
Healthy eating patterns in childhood also shape future eating habits. CDC highlights that early eating experiences can influence how children eat as they grow older.
This is why we do not only focus on short-term symptom relief. We focus on sustainable foundations.
4. Reducing Guesswork Around Supplements
Many parents are confused by supplements.
Should the child take zinc?
Iron?
Magnesium?
Multivitamin?
Probiotics?
Calcium?
Fish oil?
Something for immunity?
Our view is simple: do not supplement blindly.
Where possible, we start with food, digestion and routine. If supplementation is needed, it should be targeted and appropriate, not excessive.
The goal is balance, not more bottles.
What Happens During the Programme?
During the first consultation, the physician will assess your child’s main concerns, appetite, digestion, bowel movement, sleep, energy, skin, airway tendency, growth pattern, diet and emotional regulation.
We will also assess the child’s TCM constitution and explain what it may mean in practical parent-friendly language.
A small hair sample will be collected for the hair mineral test. The test is non-invasive and child-friendly.
Depending on the child’s needs, the programme may include child tuina and herbal patch therapy to support digestion, immunity, appetite or constitution balance.
Parents will also receive dietary guidance and a sample meal plan so that changes can begin at home.
1 Week Trial @ $389 before GST
Usual price: $467
Includes:
- First TCM physician consultation
- 1 hair mineral test
- 1 child tuina session
- 1 herbal patch session
- Sample meal plan
This trial is suitable for parents who want to understand their child’s body better before committing to a longer programme.
FAQ: Pediatric Nutrition Programme Singapore
Is this programme suitable for picky eaters?
Yes. Many children with picky eating also have underlying digestive weakness, sensory preferences, irregular meal habits, constipation, low appetite or constitution imbalance. We assess the child first before giving practical food strategies. For picky eating, repeated gentle exposure to foods is often needed, and CDC advises giving children chances to try foods again and again rather than giving up after the first rejection.
Is hair mineral testing safe for children?
Yes. The test only requires a small hair sample and is non-invasive. However, the result must be interpreted carefully and should not be used as a standalone diagnosis.
Can TCM help with child immunity?
TCM may support child immunity by strengthening digestion, improving Qi production, supporting sleep, reducing dampness or phlegm tendencies and improving overall constitution. For children who fall sick often, we also consider diet quality, bowel function, sleep, stress, allergens and medical history.
Will my child need supplements?
Not always. We prefer to start with food, digestion and routine where possible. Supplements should be targeted and based on the child’s needs, not given blindly.
Is this suitable for eczema, allergies or sensitive airway?
It may be supportive, especially when skin and airway symptoms are linked with digestion, bowel movement, food triggers, phlegm-damp tendency or weak Lung/Spleen constitution. However, this does not replace medical allergy care or emergency treatment for severe allergic reactions.
Is this programme a replacement for seeing a pediatrician?
No. This programme complements, but does not replace, pediatric medical care. We will refer parents back to medical evaluation when symptoms suggest the need for further investigation.
If you are comparing child nutrition TCM Singapore options, choose a programme that looks beyond picky eating alone and considers digestion, constitution, mineral patterns, immunity, sleep and growth together.
